Earth Day and Arbor Day

Each spring, two important dates mark support for environmental protection. We celebrate these days because we take our commitment to the planet seriously.

Earth Day has been celebrated in April annually in the US since 1970 and eventually around the world. Last year, an estimated 1 billion people participated in Earth Day events. This year’s theme is “Invest in Our Planet” with an emphasis on guaranteeing a healthy future for the coming generations.  For more information see earthday.org

Arbor Day got its start a few years earlier – in 1872, to be exact – when  J. Sterling Morton, a Nebraska newspaper editor and tree enthusiast, started a competition offering prizes to counties and individuals for the largest number of properly planted trees. More than 1 million trees were planted on that first Arbor Day, and the number has grown ever since. Our company got its start taking care of trees, and we’re still planting and caring for trees every working day of the year. Plant a tree! See arborday.org for more information.
